Ärende: bang a gong, get it on
==============================
MK>> 33.6 was the only real speed improvement.
MK>
MK>It could be bumped up but then the noise level would increase as well.
MK>Around this neck of the woods, 28.8 was the most stable fastest speed
MK>with the least noise. That may have improved since back then but I
MK>doubt it matters anymore.

If the internet breaks down maybe.. :) But I really don't guess it would.
Like Jehov's widnesses talking about judgementday..

MK>> We had 28.800 for a long time.. Some people like me didn't even
MK>> wanna both to switch out the 19.200 bps modem :)
MK>
MK>Telco's guarenteed 9600, mostly because of commercial fax machines. Most
MK>of the survey equipment that used serial for data transfers were in the
MK>4800 baud range. Slow but effective.

I gues the american phone network is worser than ours.. Also for ISDN in
the US you could only get 56kbps, where we could get 64kbps.. Maybe it's
something about standards.. don't know..

MK>> And pretty soon we can see any webpage using a text-based browser
MK>
MK>They still exist. If they didn't I would have abandoned the www ages
MK>ago. As far as I can tell the only reason for a graphical browser for
MK>most people is to view pornography although the excuse is usually
MK>something like Google Earth. Yeah right!!! :::snicker:::

Yes what I meant was "And pretty soon we CANNOT see..." :)

Well if somebody want to be a part of a social network like Facebook,
it would probably not work without javascript support which no text-based
browser can handle (afaik).

[gfortran]

MK>I was wondering that myself. I may in the future but I honestly don't
MK>think I need to unless I plan to start using it again. I have serious
MK>doubts it'll happen but you never know for sure.

No that's right.

MK>> Hah.. The one I had, is also an X.
MK>
MK>Yes but you're much younger than I.

I assume so.. :)

MK>BTW, I am old enough to know better but young enough to care ... every
MK>so often ... too often methinks. :-/

I see..

MK>> If you expect to find a girl with mutual interests..
MK>> It might be hard.
MK>
MK>I have long concluded that it doesn't matter. Mutual interest has
MK>absolutely nothing to do with what interests me otherwise. If it
MK>matters to her then it won't really matter since it'll never get to the
MK>point where it could matter.

That's right.. Alot of people live together without sharing that much,
beside of their love for eachother.

MK>Keep it simple. :-)

Right.

MK>Anyhow, what is seems to be best for all concerned which is just me at
MK>the moment. My children are grown up and my former wife seems to be
MK>content from what I can tell. Everything is as it should be or at least
MK>is what it is.

Ah you're that old :-)

MK>> S-Modem/Hydra gives you almost 100% efficientcy.
MK>
MK>I liked hydra the brief time I used it. However nobody uses it, not
MK>even me, so there it sits wherever there is.

Yes I stripped it off daydream BBS since the implementation was broken
(it only worked on modem as far as I could see) ... Zmodem is good enough
for supporting dialup users.. FTP should be more usable for telnet users.

MK>> Yes I should really get one of those W meters
MK>
MK>Me too. I haven't run across one in the neck of the woods ... yet.

Here, one can borrow them at the library, since it's the intention here
to safe power.

MK>The write cycles are less. If you minimalize the writes to the
MK>boot/root then they should last much longer than a magnetic drive
MK>especially in a hostile enviroment.

Aha I see.. But log filesystems also helps? So you will not reuse the
same position on the flash drive that often?

MK>Also, also, also flash disks are vastly less power hungry than burners
MK>so for mobile writes that makes then EXTREMELY attractive.

Yes that's very nice..

Bo
