Hello Maurice.

05 Jul 09 15:24, you wrote to me:

It is a all Intel board, the current one is a VIA board, I am no longer in the
mood to work around other peoples stupidity ... , I battle enough with my own
:-), so I have no need of theirs .. :-))

If there is a Linux package that fits their lisence, and runs on Linux they
include it, I still prefer Debian to Ubuntu, but they are some of the few
folks still using a single CD for their distro, you can get a DVD version if
you have bandwidth to waste, and bandwidth is something I don't have to waste.

 MK> Life is good,

Life would be good, if I could lay my paws on a distro like that, well, to
start with, I don't need X, can add that later, as and when needed.

What I'd like ideally would be a distro, that would install and be bootable,
with the minimum needed to compile anything else, and get on the internet so I
could get the source code I require to add what I want, and Gentoo is not the
answer ..., it has it's own problems ...

Was a time, when I could do a minimal Debian install in 80 megabytes, then
start adding the bits I wanted and top out around 480 megabytes ...

apt-get is nice because it would get the things I needed, and if I forgot
something that I needed, would fix that as well ... , but if the last bit of
playing is anything to go by, dependancies have increase somewhat :-((

That is what I like about FreeBSD ports, you can check the dependencies
beforehand, make any sensible changes with regard to dependancies then
download the source, compile, and install the result.

And what is driving this, is hi-res music ... , i.e. I want to build a music
server that can play/support AIFF, WAV, and FLAC up to at least 24bit 192MHz
sampling rate, and possibly beyond without tomuch extra effort.

Russell
