Ärende: that's what i want
==========================
Hey Wayne!

> Too late already know it, dead easy.

Okay. That can happen.

> I need the online banking to get stuff delivered as opposed
> to trying to get someplace.

I used to do that but now I usually get the local guru in town to take care of
business now that we have him better trained. I think it even works out
cheaper.

> I guard my $3.02 cents with my life

I leave that to the bank. Isn't that their job? Mind you from what we've
witnessed lately from the banks on your side of the fence I'd be more
suspicious about their abilties to manage money. Some of that happened on this
side of the fence but far less dramatically. My $3.02 is still there not that
it really matters all things considered.

> They have a Flash based template that's gotta go.

Ah! Yeah I don't know much about web based crap other than I don't like the
little I do know about web based crap, lynx is a handy tool for turning html's
into text and I find that handy. Also wget for fetching anything worth
fetching off of web sites. What else could anyone really want?

> Also check to see if there's an uninstall binary.

If installed by pkgtools (installpkg) then removepkg should work.

> My local computer shop recommends Biostar

I haven't heard anything nasty about them. Paul thinks they're a good generic
motherboard.

> I'm thinking of an AMD 64 bit CPU though on a Biostar motherboard.

That should work and is a very inexpensive way to break into 64 bit. If it were
me I'd stick to a board that uses ddr2. I have yet to hear anything good about
the newer ram and it is more expensive.

> If necessary I'll go with an Intel motherboard as I do like
> their quality but costs there present a problem.

Right. That is why I recommended the Atom boards to you as they are fine other
than the initial problems getting the onboard realtek ethernet working. Seems
to be working with kernel versions > 2.6.27 so that is no longer an issue
although I'd rather it was an actual Intel. Also the ide interface had issues
with mixing optical drives (33 and 66) but it could work if it needed to work.
I haven't tried the intelfb on there since I had issues with that on a
different board with the same chipsets (945) but I do know that the regular
vesafb works. Also xorg has no issues with the onboard graphics using their
intel driver and the kernel's dri stuff. Bothe the Atom 230 and 330 are 64 bit
smp capable and these days are the most inexpensive way to break into 64 bit.

> Once THAT USB 3.0 hardware card is out I'll be using it a lot.

I am content to wait and see especially now that I have my main board taming
usb2.0 wrt bootabilty options. I still seem to prefer the ramdisk method but I
can see where the newer util-linux/e2fsprogs method would be more attactive in
the case of eeepc's using the builtin sd slot, not that it matters to me
personally. I was happy with compact flash for this particular purpose. As
for USB 3.0, the only attraction would be for the higher speeds and hot
swapping regular drives. Today esata is working and I have doubts usb 3.0 will
beat it.

Life is good,
Maurice
