We are talking toner cartridges that can cost $60 up to $200 each, depending on
the model he has.

If he has a model that takes a separate drum unit, to replace the drum can
rival the cost of a new laser printer.

Page yields are meaningless if in order to obtain them it blows his budget.

A couple of points tho..

First off its no secret that the Printer Makers recoup their cost from the ink.

No differently than the grocery stores recoup their margins in the grocery dept
to offset the dairy, meat and produce areas.

Wayne has taught himself to be frugal, I very much doubt he will be a
printa-holic.

If we are talking a cheap HP, the 21/22 cartridges will afford him 300 to 600
pages at 5 to 15% coverage, which will last him a long time providing he isnt a
print-aholic, and these are sold together as a pair for $30. Wayne is on a
technical binge, so the bulk of his printing is likely to be text, all the
better.

He would be getting a printer he knows the mileage of.

He can always opt to use the refill kits, though I would suggest he waits til
the factory warranty expires.
