One of the channels still works.  I used to be able to get a choice of two
streams but for whatever reason the second channel isn't letting me in. Might
look into that later.

There are others.  I know one of my old favourites used to provide an
experimental ogg stream and will have to see if that is still doable.

I haven't had any problems with it.  Might not be all that friendly for the
pointy-clicky crowd but what would they know about anything decent?

What's the difference besides overhead from the servers point of view? Any
decent client shouldn't have issues unless of course the stream isn't
'valid'.

Can I edit the sound files on the server with it?  Does it supply apps that can
create digital samples?  If so how many channels and what sample rates, etc.?

Actually I did way back when I first brought up the subject and it was part and
parcel of what spawned this particular offshoot with you. I even identified a
manufacturer and two model numbers.  Still haven't found anywhere to actually
buy either but that is okay as I am not quite ready to make a decision.  I am
patient when I need to be.

For sure.  8 inch will work well too.  10 inch would be better.  No rush.
