I'm dyslexic and actually picked up Linux while undergoing a series of
strokes in the 2006 - 2007 time frame.

I got a heck of a lot of help from this echo.
Lots of encouragement when I got hung up.

In the end I found that it was my fear of not making progress
itself was holding me up.

I made a lot of mistakes but used them to drive home the methods and syntax
until I had a base understanding on which to build.
Read this as meaning I did a lot of reinstalls.

Remeber Google is your friend and there is no mistake made with Linux
someone
else hasn't made and solved before you.

Tailor your search keywords with this in mind and you've got a good start.

Had I stuck with Knoppix I never really would have caught on
however if you like the Mac experience perhaps the Knoppix 6.4.4
live release DVD would suit for a time?

I really don't recommend it as as far as learning Linux as it's too
easy to get lulled into having it just work and thus you can get lazy.

I'm running it now in RAM only on top of the drive with Slack on it
and that drive mounted.

I am however passing out DVD copies to those I know who are stuck on
Windows
knowing it'll gain some converts
