For this particular test file locking was unneeded since it was acting upon
already created text messages that don't contain any kludges or a FTN MSG
header, nevermind a MSGID.  There is no need for file locking in this case but
I am sure it can be done.  I have seen many examples of them in the past.

Scripts are great for specific jobs gluing together system's apps that are more
generic.  I thought the random.c idea was a good example of this.  Perhaps not.

Not a single duped id in the 66 text files I used for this idea, not to say a
false duped id could never happen.  What are the odds that just two different
messages (just the message body btw) could create the exact same checksum?  By
not counting the MSG header or any kludges (there are none until they are
tossed to outgoing packets) then the odds of creating a duplicate 32 bit id's
using checksums is greatly reduced.  Can you demonstrate otherwise?

Something like that is required no matter how the MSGIDs are generated if a
dupe checking routine is to be employed using MSGIDs.  However that won't catch
actual dupes if the MSGIDs are altered which can and does happen.

Understood.  I've seen that idea fail in the past.
