Yes I've heard of eComStation.  Someone thought when it first came out that I
should be programming for it.  I declined at the time but did look into what it
would take to pull it off.

For sure.  This latest chatter about utf-8 is only the tip of that particular
iceberg.

And many American systems still run VMS and some others DOS.  I've even
stumbled across an hacked/embedded Win3.1 system not too long ago.

That was on an early 486 whose original drive bit the dust and required a new
one.  At that time the smallest new drives were in the 1G range.

My latest and greatest gcc and friends with a new 3.x linux kernel is still
under 500M fully bloated.  Comes in two flavours; x86_64-core2-linux-gnu and
x86_64-atom-linux-gnu which aren't that much different from each other.  I do
have a 32 bit version in reserve - i486-pc-linux-gnu - but haven't stumbled
across anything to install it to lately.  It is rougly 10% smaller and includes
the same packages as the x86_64 versions.  An earlier incarnation of
i486-pc-linux-gnu is currently running on a neighbour's eeePC.  I am trying to
convince him to upgrade it but he likes the xorg stuff I put on it at the time.
 I haven't done a xorg for awhile.  What for?  I see nothing worth all that
additional bloat.  Do you?  ;-)

Lean and mean is always best.

I have no issues with older hardware as long as it is virgin (ie no MS).  For
instance I never recycle HD's that I didn't buy new.  None of my drives have
ever had MS software on them EVER!!!  :-)
