Ärende: Thanks Again!
=====================
Hi! Ed,

On Thu, 31 May 12, you wrote to me:

PQ>>I am confused reading that. Talk of mail 'spool files' is ancient
 PQ>> talk.

 EV> I suppose U'u uses a Print Spooler too?

Yep. Though printing from U'u is a weird science. My workaround evolved to
printing to my wife's printer attached to her PC, via USB. To re-state her
situation: her PC runs U'u as the host system, and she uses XP as her OS of
choice in a vBox. The printer is configured in her U'u+vBox to passthrough to
XP, so that any Windows workstations on the LAN actually see the printer as a
LAN share. Linux systems have their own linux drivers to access that Windows
printer on the LAN; even her host U'u does this.

Conversely, I have a Linux vBox server that runs a print-to-PDF printer so that
any LAN workstation, be they: real; virtual; Windows or Linux, can send work to
be converted to a PDF doc. Those jobs end up in an outbound spool in one of
the server's LAN shares. :)

 EV> I didn't try to print anything yesterday when I was using U'u 7.04 .

That's what I like to hear. ;-)

PQ>>Unzip. Enter that at a terminal prompt and you get a screenful of
 PQ>> help.
EV> Thanks again. that is the same way PKZIP and PKUNZIP works too.
EV> And a lot of times I need help.

Yeah, it turns out to be Zip & Unzip without the PK. That's fine if you know
what you're looking for; I appreciate your 'poking around in the dark' as I've
done the same in the past.

EV> I used to use the -& option when I wanted to ZIP (a) file(s) larger
EV> than 1.44MB on to several floppy disks when I was using the 486 box.
 EV> ;-)

Although I use archives in Linux scripts I don't ordinarily use them at a
terminal prompt. You may recall that I'm somewhat addicted to using
"Commander"-style GUI tools? I use the "Tux Commander"(TC) all the time, in
all our linux systems. It's the first util that I download from the U'u
"Software Centre" in a new install.

With TC, I just double-click on a ZIP and it opens like a directory. If it
contains further ZIPs or directories, I just double-click on them to navigate
deeper. From there, I can view text files in the archive or copy files out,
etc. Working with ZIPped (& other types of) archives is a piece of the
proverbial, using TC.

EV> I followed the instructions at Yahoo.com help page to set T'bird (TB)
EV> up and did't have any trouble doing it at all.

Neat.

EV> I haven't been invited to my neighbors computer room so I can't be of
EV> much help just trying to talk about something that I don't know
 EV> about.

I prefer to 'play dumb' in such situations too, like you.

EV> I don't know if he was trying to get any UUCP stuff or not.
EV> UUCP I think means UseNet??? I thought he was asking me about using
EV> TB for email not UseNet.

Yes, though it used to be used for both. Back in the old days UUCP was used
for a lot of things, originally using analogue modems. Pretty much like
Fidonet.

EV> I tried once using Outlook Express to get FIDO messages from a
EV> hub2000.darktech address but didn't care for it so went back to using
 EV> SLMR and .QWK packets.
EV> I never thought about trying FIDO messages on TB, I just use it for
 EV> email.

That's about the same as I do though, as you may recall, I have three NNTP
servers to pick (mail) from as well. Just like you, I've gravitated to
something I'm more comfortable with than anything else.

Cheers,
Paul.
