Ah okay. That would definitely be a good reason.

Yep. I took at look at that CD install, and the first link you get is "This
will not work with LFS 7.0 or later." So it's obviously outdated.

They basically tell you to use another distro in order to start your LFS build.
I just find that odd that they pawn you off onto another distro first, before
explaining their way of doing things. :)

If he's still keeping most of the dependencies Slackware requires, then he's
probably still using ports. This is the opposite of what I was getting at.

Say, for example, I chose Gentoo. I start with a minimal .iso where I have the
bare essentials to start building my system. I create partitions and chroot
into the new environment in order to set it up. From there, I choose NOT to use
the package manager, and just compile everything from source. Isn't that
basically what LFS is all about?

I just don't get how basically the first step they tell you, is to download
some other random distro to get started with this one. That's kinda wonky, IMO.
If they provided a small .iso (that actually worked with the current LFS
building documentation) so you could get started, instead of starting to read
the book, and then having to go track down <insert random distro here> only to
go back to that book to continue onward.

I don't know. I'm probably overreacting like crazy about it, I just found it
completely amusing and it was very unexpected, to say the least.

 MK> How about you? ;-)

Heh, unfortunately these days my todo list doesn't have much to do with
computers, so I try to keep some interest but also need some ease with the
least amount of headaches involved. I was actually going to start an LFS build
last night, until I ran into the part they told me to go grab another distro.
That abruptly stopped me from what I was trying to accomplish. I just haven't
let that go and moved on yet. Still makes me giggle. :)

Regards,
Nick
