Ärende: curiousity level waning, suspicion level increasing
===========================================================
Hey Benny!

BP> so i can live in fidonet without husky ?

Not without jumping through a bunch of hoops first. I am not aware of anything
specific that will replace husky on linux boxes, other than my extra special
WeBeBashing thingy and it is extremely frugal. I have considered making it
more user friendly, or possibly writing c code for it, but so far I don't
appear to have gone that much further on that path than just getting it to
work.

 BP> Janis is :)

Yes she is. Perhaps she would be a more appropriate person to ask about
submitting patches?

BP> it just not possible right now on android to use it natively yet

That I know little to nothing about. I have toyed with the idea of writing a
'go' app but have yet to actually do anything with it. Besides, I have no
android based system to test it out with and am definetly not into java or
python which would be the tools of 'choice' if targetting android. Last I
checked java apps were still number one on android. Python was second and go
was pulling up a distant third.

BP> thats why i am using nntp

There are definetly apps for that on android.

BP> php web reader that used fidosql backend

A tad overkill I would think.

 BP> think sqlite

Maybe. If thinking along that line perhaps a microperl port would be better?
That would add far more functionality to android without adding more bloat than
having sqlite onboard. Personally I think microperl would have far more to
offer and I could definetly see where it could be exploited by a native ftn-ish
app. Heck I can see it being useful for a regular linux box when thinking
about fnt-ish style {in,out}bound pkts. I should check to see if microperl is
still doable on this x86_64 box.

Hm. You've got me thinking now.

BP> want to ignore solutions on base of there is no problems

There are no problems unless you add them in. I don't need to solve problems
for formats that don't exist on anything here, such as squish, jam, whatever.
I think you enjoy complicating things more than they have to be.

BP> running iconv in hpt perl wrapper could not be usefull ?

If I was using perl to call up iconv then yes. As is it works well in bash
scripts and on the commandline so I am happy with iconv as is. However on an
android based thingy, such as a smart phone, if all messaging is utf-8 then I
see no need for iconv on there. What for? The server is the place where iconv
should be deployed for compatibilty issues, but even there it shouldn't be
needed if utf-8 text messaging became the norm, which I for one believe it
should.

Life is good,
Maurice
