I am the exact opposite of the above, more file transfers and some information.
 I am finding good information harder and harder to find these days, especially
on the www.  Far too many hits to commercial sites that don't really tell you
anything about whatever it is they are attempting to sell you and far less - if
indeed anything - about how it actually works.  I tend to be highly skeptical
whether much of what I see out there actually does work in any meaningful way
to me personally.

I've seen that.  I once turned an eeepc into one of those playing mp4's off a
usb mounted flash disk.  Worked pretty slick and looked good on the 800x480
display using the linux framebuffer device which in it's case was inteldrmfb. 
No GUI required but I had to compile it's own mplayer in order to exploit that
particular device.  Mean and lean too - under 128M soaking wet and probably
could have easily gotten it to run in 64M except I put some other functionality
in it beyond just multimedia schtuff.

AHA!!!  My neighbour was speculating whether or not they come bundled with
skype.  Thanks for the heads up and I will definetly pass that bit of
information on to him.

I used to do much more before switching to linux way back when.  Other than
scripting I really don't find a need to write source from scratch like I used
to.  I do compile quite a bit though since stock supplied apps from
distributions don't usually target power endusers.  I find I am not usually
part of their target audience.  :::sigh:::

I envy you.  Mine are too far away from where I am.
