I believe NOVA did an episode on him as well, tracking down some hackers
in Germany after noting a few cents accounting error on user accounts.
In the end he tagged a bunch of lines hooked up to record 
and had that set to alert him by pager.

Well, finally someone who's read this book other than myself!
Guy finds his niche as a programmer as a college student
in search of.., err female companionship and writes a program
to improve his bank account standing.

Designed to replicate itself in search of systems it becomes sentient.
P-1 becomes something of a problem.
Wish they'd do a original movie or book sequel.
