Seriously, the clique that is 'maintaining' OBERON cares the
_least_ about the 'little guy' of all but the 'Kermit Team' at
Colombia.

I have setup many 16 bit DOS internet applications and can
guarantee that they are even _more_ frustrating than any linux
distribution. Each author favored his/her own methods and even
long standing software that had had several maintainers over
the years retained errors and inconsistencies that had to be
overcome. 

At one time W3x was supported by Trumpet's DOS sockets, there
was no Winsock software. That was 'fun'? 

W9x has scores of problems with it's DUN (Dial Up Networking)
package. Some here may recall the horror of trying to
uninstall-reinstall DUN versions? 

The author of OBERON's telecom module refused to add commports
3 and 4 (I used 4) and I had to add them to the source code
myself and compile that module to get OBERON onto the internet.
This in a language I had never seen before (not many have). 

If you read discussion here about setserial and mgetty you
should notice that many who _think_ they understand telecom
soft/hardware really do not. When a person who does not
understand manages to organize a CD for linux there is no way
of knowing how much of it is going to work on how many machines. 

When I complained to a person who had created a SlackWare
mini-install that his use of EZNET wasn't working on any of my
machines he insulted me in a public forum claiming I was a bit
less than intelligent but sent me a private email admitting he
had never tested EZNET because he had no modem to test it with.
When I tried to get help from the author of EZNET he said "It
works on my machine and my friends machines so I don't care". 

The "It works for me" is a common response from DOS, Windows,
OBERON, and Linux programmers. No one OS has the patent on "I
don't care".
