Some years back there were quite a few, yes. Right around the
time that the Russian 'backbone' grew larger than the North
American backbone people in the US started shutting down their
BBSs.

I've never used OS/2 myself but I was told it was more stable
than Windows was. I tend to think of OS/2 as being comparable
to W2K that I use here. One other reason may have been that
those who programmed in OS/2 seemed to be more technically
adept than 'the others' were at the time meaning the OS/2 BBS
software was/is probably better and/or more stable?

My OLR is a text-only program and when I'm using it it looks
like a connection to an ANSI color BBS message base. :-)

LYNX can save the html links from within a webpage and is one
of the few telnet applications with a proper Kermit transfer
with all the 'bells-n-whistles' kermit has to offer.

Kermit was invaluable for PC to mainframe transfers and in
Europe where the POTS lines were of questionable quality.

I was pleasantly surprised the first time I used LINKS to see
that it could maintain as much of the webpage layout as it can.

I used LYNX quite a bit at one time and it makes me feel good
to see it's display come up on my monitor. A warm-fuzzy for me.
