Knoppix has been a huge aid to my using the command line.
I can see what it's doing at the GUI level than transfer that knowledge
to the command line.

Knoppix even has the ability in ramdrive mode to boot straight into
command line VERY quickly without all the desktop stuff.

-> Knoppix can do for you is give you the initial feel for what some consider a
-> Linux desktop and doesn't even scratch the surface of Linux's true
potential.

Well I'll likely never achieve your level of proficiency due to the
fact I tire easily and Linux demands a lot of learning for the power
user.

This computer would have been tossed but for Linux for which it's
ideally suited with no speed deficiencies for what I do.

No video editting here.

Computer came to me free from a disgruntled Windows user and was found
on my doorstep partly dissassembled.

What the owner ( or her computer experts) hadn't realized was the boot
sector on the Quantum drive was iffy causing lots of crashes.

I figured it out and uppped the RAM from 96 Meg to 256.

I do believe the owner had knocked this machine about quite a bit
while the drive was spun up.

If it don't work kicking it isn't always the best course of
action however in the case of MS products...
