Network cards too, although I have only stumbled across 66MHz 64-bit ones so

Some have agp or agp graphic chips onboard.  ATI Rage with 8M seems to be the
most common.  Personally I still prefer g200's, either pci or agp.  The pci are
good enough for me and can handle anything I've thrown at them, including
dvd's.  Given the output to the matroxfb I can't really see me wanting anything
supposedly 'better'.

That is exactly the way I feel about agp.  It honestly escapes me why any home
user would be truly interested in any of that given what they are using video
output for.  Possibly gamers but even there I question the need.  Maybe, but I
have doubts it is REALLY needed even in gaming.

I still see 100MHz ones out there called pci-x.  I have yet to figure out why I
would need any of that.

I just did a test of capture of a hardware based mpeg2 capture 32-bit pci card
and it didn't put a dent (not even 1%) on a single 933 p3 using straight 'cat'
of the device to a file.  It works great.  I am betting the same could be done
on almost any motherboard that can handle 32-bit pci cards as long as the
target drive can keep up to it.  I also am betting that it could be streamed
and displayed on far less then what would be required hardware-wise to
replicate on a less capable OS then Linux.

Less *IS* more.  :-)
