Okay.  That makes sense.  I hear Mac's are good for this sort of thing.  Same
with digital movies.

That I understand.  I used to make plots of G's of raw data from nine track
tapes and it had to be manipulated first.  However that was all done on the
computer and never bothered plotting any of it to the monitor which was
couldn't handle it (an old eye-bleeding yellow screen).  The end result was
excellent but only because the data was well understood beforehand.  Labels for
it were done up later using a Mac since it was good at making labels.  As for
Solaris and Sparc's plotting and manipulating on a 21" monitor did little to
improve the quality of the final plots, but it was nice to be able to check it
first.  That worked good but cost far too much money for this cowboy and I
haven't done anything like that since.  All I need is to view digital pictures
and for that fbi on a 8M Matrox is fantastic.  I haven't editted graphics for
ages now.  What for?

Understood.  Mac's are supposedly good for that sort of thing.  I hear they
have good software for digital movie editting as well.  I am sure there is
great Unix software for this as well but I am betting it costs 100's of
thousands of dollars and is unaffordable as per hardware/software.  I am
guessing he'd prefer a Mac.
