Hey Kenneth!

Sounds interesting. I will have to check that out myself. The network here
doesn't require anything too heavyweight. Perhaps something along the lines of
what you are talking about would get more 'airtime' then the stuff I've
recently encountered.

KP> Ah. Did you say somewhere they're mpeg-2 video, or was it mpeg-4?

2. I do have the Xvid libs which report they are 4 capable but have yet to
take them out for a test cruise. I still need to check some of mplayer's
capabilties especially 'mencoder' to do reformatting and compare that to
'transcode' ... perhaps even a few others that I am not aware of as we speak.
Not being much of a movie buff this might be awhile before I get around to it.

For sure. I'd certainly like to hear your thoughts on the matter. I noticed
quite a few radeon specific patches in the kernel but not much generic ati or
rage stuff. As far as the matroxes around here go they always seem to work
despite a few minor problems. I noticed improvement in a G400 lately including
second head support for tv-out. I finally managed to get that working not too
shabbily but to be honest I prefer the WinTV with a matrox g200 (no second head
on any of those except a wierd DVI on a HP visualize g200 based agp card).

KP> I've been using madplay for some mp3 audio files I have here.

That works good here.

Cool! Tell me more.

 KP> and with gcc 3.4.5,

I have that onboard with gcc 4.0.2 for comparitive purposes. So far I get
mixed results depending on the source and the application.

I think I'd rather create my own then jump through all those hoops fixing
other's work. Also thinking at finding a decent preamp for a turntable now
that I see the cassette tape is working so well with the scheme here. Might be
some fun in that.

Life is good,
Maurice
