And depending on how much spam can be filtered out, sounds like not just a 
good thing, but just the next *natural* evolutionary process of Fidonet, 
the Internet, and technology. And if it turns out to be a *bad* thing then 
I suppose that happens too when things evolve.

But then my question would be: if it's being gated back and forth why log 
into a BBS to read and reply to messages on Fidonet? More people have 
access to the internet and newsgroups, do they not? More activity would be 
going thru Fidonet, but wouldn't that essentially mean that down the road, 
more of it would be coming from usenet from nntp servers rather than the 
fidonet that we think of and has been around for a decade+. 

I know of one point Maurice didn't state when making the comparison; if he 
did state it, then I failed to catch it. From my personal experience, 
usenet contains more 
***holes than Fidonet because it's so much more publicly accessible or 
promoted than BBS'ing or Fidonet. For instance, you'd get more punk 
teenager or hackers? Business ads done as to not look like totally 
like spam?

I've used newsgroups frequently in the past, and I see so much petty 
bickering, pointless arguing, insults, etc.

And *that* was in the alt.pacifist.4.life group! :) j/k

And when I say public accessible, I mean 
along the lines of... when someone signs up for an ISP, most ISP's give 
free use of the nntp server, along with free tech support on how to set it 
up in their usually pre-installed mail-client. I don't know many ISP's 
that will explain Fidonet, telnet, the difference between port 23 and 
port 80, or go into how people shared files, messages, or did "network-gaming"
before the Internet. :)

I won't go as far back as Arpa-Net here. :)
