MK> You just never know for sure eh? Be prepared, is my motto.
If I can get my face slapped, I know my message is getting out.

JB> Maybe we'll tip a few one day.
 MK> Sounds good to me.
I'd consider it an honor! I'll have dad teach me to double distill Vodka.

[RE: tvtime "bad interpreter"]
JB> it still doesn't want to "./configure". I'll trash it around a bit.
MK> Weird. You must be missing something. Do you have a list
 MK> of packages you installed?

There should be a log of that, somewhere?

 JB> more. I've tried 95 Fat32 w/+w/o LBA.
MK> What did you format it with? If Win98 that might be the problem.

Oh, I have to format it? <G+D> Funny what a guy can sort out after he clears
the sleep out of his eyes.

JB> Ya, and the library doesn't even employ a real IT tech!
MK> Are they looking for one? I'll show them how to keep their lowly Win98

They should be! I wonder what equipment they have upstream from their "dumb"
terminals. They just present W2K to us mortals, and when that gets too
confused, thankfully it reboots... Usually. How many billions surplus in the AB
coffer, and they can't pay a single tech's wages? "Uh, we don't really have a
tech department for me to give you a phone number." No DOUBT! What was my first
clue?

MK> boxes in line with a half decent Linux server running the show.

Oh, MANG... Don't get me started! Four out of four libraries I have visited,
are equipped differently. Most seems to be Wyse terminals. Likely with a cat-5
cable to the hub.

I just spent some time in a day surgery waiting room, where there was a couple
of PCs with a "Your connection to the Internet" sticker on the monitors. After
google wouldn't load on either, I asked the nearest administrator. "No, it's
too expensive, and the service was dropped." I have no doubts, a guy like you
could tighten up the lot, and provide a balanced load. They likely buy so much
superfluous bandwidth, it borders on the criminal.

MK> All they would have to do is pay for a round way ticket and
MK> cover my expenses while I am there. I know some people in
MK> that neck of the woods, mostly in the oil business. Go
MK> figure eh? Maybe I'll find some interesting toys to
MK> liberate for the library's cause.

I know the retired Shop Steward. I wonder if that would go any distance.
Seriously, I've been owing them a phone call about the need for a useless
floppy they provide at each station. If you charge them $500K for six weeks,
they might take you seriously.

JB> They kinda bring the 100MHz fsb to the logical limit. I was just
JB> a 700MHz Celeron in on that machine, when I read about your
JB> that Celeron goes in, I'd just be splitting hairs to go up to
 JB> 800M-100fsb.

 MK> Makes sense. I got a couple 500MHz genuine P3's (matched) if you're
MK> interested. They are 100MHz fsb and are hardly used.

Now, I'm scratchin' my head. This 700/66 Celeron, got up to the BIOS/RAM test
screen, (Successful POST, right?) and tells me to wait, and wait, and... Likely
a dual-V, or screwed up multiplier issue? My bud, tossed the CPU to me, saying
it was a 100fsb. (NOT! FC-PGA @66.) Unless it isn't a Copermine... Well, long
story. I'm back to the 466/66.

All told, with shipping and the uncertainty about this BIOS, I think I'll
continue keeping my eyes open here. HW docs told me 66fsb would be used on P3,
and Celerons, and 100 would be used only for the VIA. As it's not a zif, and in
one of those *ultra*compact cases, I prefer to keep it closed unless it is
going to be a move up. But thanks, no less!
