Hey Janis!

Yep. I got used to it though. I figure, usually correctly, that if the person
responsible isn't worried about it then there isn't anything to be worried
about and I leave it at that. If I am missing anything I am not aware of it
and thus am not missing anything. Right? :-)

JK> Yep, know what you mean... I run into it now and again as well :(

Usually the text browser is correct though. If it can't display then there
more then likely isn't anything useful in the way of information and it is safe
to move on. A few times out of curiousity I have double checked with a gui
browser which usually confirms this; Much bytes about nothing constructive
and/or useful.

JK> I use Mozilla Firefox when I have to go into Xwindows for some site

That isn't too bad but a bit bloated methinks. Like I said, usually no reason
to even browse most pages that a text browser can't display. All glitz, no
glory.

JK> or whatever.. Most times I'm on a console running lynx though..<g>.
JK> I went to the fptech site with it, and yep, you don't see all the
 JK> info. :(

I like lynx. I use it mostly to read html pages and sometimes use it to
convert whatever html to text if there is something of interest there. Mostly
cut and paste any bits of information though to a text file for later retreval
for whatever reason. Works excellent for that.

JK> Sure, I understand.. didn't think you would really... it's a tool for

Right. I did note that it is terminal based which I though was interesting.
Looks like they are sparing the horsepower for the important work, which is a
good thing methinks. Too bad they don't write their webpages that way eh? ;-)

JK> When we have people decide to "jump ship", & it happens, believe me..

That is the important thing for sure.

JK> Yeah, looks interesting. I'm waiting for some of the brainstormers
JK> to wow us with some idea of the century with their use <grin>

It can and does happen.

 JK> Right.. those vax/vms systems weren't PC's that's for sure <grin>..

There is an understatement if I've ever seen one. I was told it took 24 hours
to boot the sucker up and I believed it although I never actually witnessed it.

JK> we were definitely addicted <laugh> Well, I was.. it took him a
JK> while to decide to quit his 'real' job and work on our own business
 JK> programming custom C apps..:)

It took me awhile to get into C. Playing around with the c-shell in Solaris is
where I started to see the value in it.

JK> Ah, the select few :)

Heh, heh. The biggest sucker is more likely. :-) I had fun though and
learned quite a bit about archiving data nevermind for just tapes. Scripting
is what I really learned and that attitude actually helped out later in dos, on
my first PC (386). I could suck that thing into thinking it could do things no
other 386 could do. Also that was where I actually learned to compile C
programs and wrote some fortran source on there for later compilation on a
Sparc station. It was probably the only 386 that had dos2unix on it in a
1000km radius ... possibly greater. I never saw other 386 that knew anything
about unix.

JK> the only thing I ever got to touch in college
JK> that was computerized was a light board for plays when I did Stage
JK> managing on tour we took with a play one year :) Sad..

That sounds like fun. I could have probably got into that.

 >> Yeah that is a real boar's nest for sure.

 JK> Can be indeed... ;)

For sure. Another understatement?

Life is good,
Maurice
