Ärende: Getting PCMCIA modem

I do it all the time but being greedy i use the main server for
communication and use the secondary servers for back up if i stuff
things up.

The thing is i test the latest releases for ease of installation
and explore them thoroughly. I can't get an accurate assesment if i
have been screwing around with its guts.

MK> Understood. What is the dream machine?

So far it's a Dell Pentium 3 (coppermine) 930 with 256 ram running
Mandriva 2006. This is the one i'll use for slack. I don't know what
the next one will be as i usualy buy second hand.

MA> My next project will be a slack but i'm on dial up so I'll wait

MK> Nobody around there? Usually there are linux groups where someone has

Hmm! I never realy looked into it. I tend to do things by my self.
You must remember Linux users were considered nut cases and so i
don't much look to others for guidence.

MK> Myself I am moving away from that

I'm lucky in that i could afford a new dvd and cd on the one system.
Of course the old cd and floppy will be put in my oldest system which
through time has become deaf to the outside world. Other that is
than through NFS. I managed to kill my last server by a fundimental
mistake. I don't wish to talk about it because i loved that machine. ;)

MA> gcc-4.0.1 here with no problems as such. I did have trouble trying

MK> Could be. I haven't tried parted in a few years now. Haven't had a
MK> need for it but I could see it being an attractive idea to some.

I was just researching. It looks useful for a new hard disk.

MA> Fedora doesn't get good press as far as i can see.

MK> Not here that is for sure.

First impressions are seldom wrong.

 MA> Looking at the KDE
MA> list seems to throw up more queries from that distro than most.
MA> Perhaps it's a ploy by Redhat to make users consider RH enterprise.
 MA> ;)

MK> I haven't looked at that as they never say what I would want to know.
MK> Mind you I'd probably change everything anyhow so I suppose there would
MK> be little point going that route.

The first monolithic install i played with i costomised the hell out of
it. It's still alive today. However these days i'm interested in hardware
detection. I think it's probably because it was the first big hurdle
that open source programmers were faced with. I'm not a programmer but
i have this thing about people being able to use the hardware they
bought without having to pay a secondary software company to get it
to actually work.
