sounds pretty good pricing, compusa has 512/533 ddr-2 at $39 a piece but that's
after a $15 mail-in rebate and is listed as notebook type. 1024/533 ddr2
desktop is $109 or so, and $79 after the mail-in rebate. it was interesting to
notice the varieties of pc-2700+ ram available seemed to be a bit slower for
the notebook than the desktop varieties but both ddr-2 speeds would seem to be
the same, at least numerically.

KP> no ecc in the newspaper nor p3, that i noticed

faster at the higher voltage, i guess, but like with ddr/-2 you may need the
frontside bus speed for it to deliver fully. i've read a lot of times in the
past the chips are identical in the various speeds, at manufacture, just tested
then labelled as suitable.

MK> For sure. You have to look for it a tad further then compusa

MK> up to the 800MHz variety (400, 533 and 800) so I was right that

yep. i figure if they don't it's available from store back stock or order. i
overheard them checking one of the instore computer terminals for availability
of some software at another location, one time in the 90s, i guess, or maybe it
was the warehouse.. i think the computer said it was there, but they called
confirmatively.

KP> maybe not (yet?) processor instructions, though i guess they often

 MK> We'll see when I get that far. :-)
profiling doesn't make it worse afaik :)

 MK>> Maybe today.  KP> where's it comin' from?  {gigabyte sempron64}

MK> I am not sure. I am getting it through a local dealer in Ladysmith
MK> and apparently the board is in but as of yesterday the cpu still
MK> hadn't arrived. He emailed me to say he would check so perhaps

looks like you got the board from reading ahead.

KP> does your mail software use mail priority headers (bulk, normal,
 KP> etc)?

MK> Nope. Still picking away at it. Do you mean email of the fido
 MK> stuff?
no, internet. did fido ever support that? i was thinking maybe the ftp by mail
servers might have used it to some gain.

MK>> I don't have any of it and have only seen one card (gigabit MK>>
ethernet) that interested me but that would be better to stick MK>> to
pci or perhaps go 64-bit pci instead. KP> hm.

MK> Yep. Far more universal then pci-e. None of the machines
MK> currently running here have pci-e ... or 64-bit pci now that I
MK> think about it. They all have 32-bit pci though so I think I'll
 MK> stick to that.
probably an adaptor for pci-e to pci/-64 should be feasible, and might be a
good thing, dunno.
