As it so happens the LFS base I'm cloning is 2.4.20, and that
gives me ideas.  I don't have the same distro he uses, but I
figure the kernel module binaries would be the same.  I'm
thinking if I can't get what I need from the web, I could go
one patch level and save the modules, then add all my
extensions & "enhancements".

Trinux only builds VFAT & Minix into the kernel, all other FS's
use kernel modules.  Keeps the kernel small.

The older grey CDRW's need a higher powered laser than most
CD drives used, but writer's already had for burning.  Haven't
bought any new ones in several years--not sure what's
available now.

Couldn't boot the Knoppix CDR!  That's a good test.  The
other box had no problem with it.

If Knoppix is running from the CD, I can't very well tell it
to copy from a different one.  ;-)

I'm not sure if any of that got saved in any of the backups.
/proc got created in the first step.  No, come to think of it,
I think git never looks at /proc for changes--by and large it
would be a waste of time, and restoring it could be verrrrrry
messy!

But now I have all my backup tarballs & script files on /dev/hda3
so I don't need the network for the install.

I'm not dead-ended yet, but I DON'T want to have to go through
all this everytime I want to clone my Linux system!  I want
something that WORKS!
