 JB> web site,

Lexmark is in line for finger click-itis too. It's like they compete to be the
most challenging!

Dell, to their credit has a FTP port, but I didn't see a quick-link directory,
where one could reach relevant "ln -s" particular to one machine. I took a
glance of the directories I downloaded to *for one machine*, and it was around
6/7 of a-G! ...And I didn't bother fetching everything. No wonder their pipes
get clogged!

I hear that. The best support I have seen, is some schmuck in a university,
publish a page + 1/2 explaining how he got his colour Lexmark LASER printer to
work with Debian.

I've only opened dad's so far. Sure took some examination to open the bloody
clamshell, but at least there's no screws to lose.

 MK> Adaptec?

So far as I've seen. One reported a "Dell" something or another, but I saw an
Adaptec chip on the MB.

Slots, so far as I've seen.

JB> two CPUs to max it out. Hopefully, I can reach close to 1G with it.

MK> Should be able to. I've seen a few places that

Slot 1 + 370 only went to 133MHz in the bus?

JB> toss the EISA bussed Compaq's,

MK> Good plan. I have had problems with those in
 MK> the past.

Like the Dell cases, you KNOW *some* team of engineers had their way with them.
Mine are mostly the ones pre-management shuffle, so they sold at a minimum of
mark-up, and they *still* were priced out of reach.

JB> farm. If there were only more hours before dawn...

 MK> PCI or ISA? I have a crapload of 3com ISA's

Ditto. There's a LOT of onboard NICs, with one containing *two* onboard.
...Make a nice firewall, if I had something to protect it from.

JB> pickup in my back yard? Its S# has a "666" in it.

MK> Sounds like my kind of vehicle.

I'm thinking of giving it a "The Beast" paint job.

JB> Plant music: I hear they like full bore Metal best, so everyone gets

MK> Really? I thought plants were more into
 MK> classical music.

Likely, that's all they had in the University lab at the time. I think the Myth
Busters (Someone on Discovery anyway.) pumped different types of tunes in, and
only because the Metal was most consistent at being a shake table... Turns out,
they were only responding to the vibes. The message, not the medium. (-|

JB> I wonder what the neighbors would think, if it starts a 9am, and runs
 JB> 'til JB> 22:00 automagically.

 MK> 'Highway To Hell'? :-)

They hate me enough already! <LOL> What, with all the Dell SMPs, and monitors
planted in the garden...
