No, they aren't the only people who have the claim for the name
"Linux". Linus Torvolds has that authority.

kernel.org isn't the only repository for Linux.

Alan didn't ask for your opinion on what constitutes Linux. He asked
specifically if he could safely dual boot Linux and eCS (OS/2) and if
his 40GB unallocated partition was large enough for it.

Yes you did. And no it isn't.

Yes.

Then, what IS your problem?

As I noted in the last sentence above.

Where, your house?

Slackware isn't the best by any stretch.

Your statement "...makes you superior..." shows just where your head
is... in the clouds.

EH>> You are way behind the times.

MK> Come see my systems in action and then say that.

I'm sure they are all "superior" just like you. <yawn>

EH>> No you didn't. Linux has come a long way since the days you had

MK> No it hasn't. All they supply is the source. Not one precompiled

www.kernel.org isn't the only source for Linux.

EH>> Because that isn't the way it's done any longer. Linux is a

MK> True. It is the only one here, custom kernels and all.

Good for you.

EH>> It does work! I'm running it right now.

 MK> Sounds great.

And I didn't even compile a thing. Imagine that.

EH>> Total bull. You didn't tell him the truth as it pertains to the

MK> Yes I did. Check it out. If you find a precompiled kernel available

As I have said repeatedly, www.kernel.org isn't the only source for
Linux. There are hundreds of distributions available.

EH>> Says anyone familiar with the reality of Linux today.

MK> Then they are all wrong.

I suppose you think you are the only one right.

Sure you do.

MK> I never said he had to. The kernel *IS* Linux! The rest of any

 MK> all.

Most distros come with several packages to make the experience
enjoyable.

Making the claim that it isn't Linux unless you get it from kernel.org
is misleading. The availability of several software packages does not
make it not Linux. It is still Linux and behaves as such. The software
packages are aimed to make things easier and more enjoyable.

There isn't much the average user can do with just the raw kernel.
