If you didn't live so far away I'd help out whether or not you asked for it.

Yes.

dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hda

'of' is whatever targetted unmounted drive.  I had to do that with a flashdisk
once except it was a weird one and I had to mknod a special device for it.  Now
that there are usb and other interface ones they are usually either sd or hd
and the idea is the same as regular harddrives.  I have yet to do an entire
regular drive with dd but it might solve your problem.  What have you got to
lose?

Same here which is why I thought the drives might be physically corrupted.  If
so then I doubt anything will work.

I thought that might be the case.  Try just plugging in the other one alone and
see if that straightens it all out.

Sounds good to me although 384M is overkill.  ;-)

However you will need some sort of storage but the ramdisk system itself is a
good way to run things.

That would be tricky for sure.  An EM pulse might 'fix' that 'problem'.  ;-)

Okay.  Personally I don't but I do see why others do.  For me it just
represents more GUI stuff I never wanted to start with.
