Perhaps I'm missing something but it's anything but obvious.
I believe the cache RAM is on the CPU board and pertrudes
through the heat sink.
This research through google leads me to believe.

Seem to behave well with Linux.

 MK> Probably.

Oh, I know this.
However most of the burners stipulate 1.3 GHz or better support.
I figure there's wiggle room here as Windows is so lame
but 450 MHz?

It's the easiest answer for trying various flavors of Linux.
This is all rather more for the journey rather than the destination.
I've noticed the first real pain relief I've had in years messing around
with Linux.
I get so wrapped into it it grabs my attention from the intolerable
pain.
The only thing I've found yet that does so.

MK> Care to check out my 32-bit version of ttylinux? I even have a 32-bit
MK> kernel that can detect the number of cpu's available whether 1 or
 more.

Yes I saw your post to Mr. Rogers.
I had deleted that packet but may just reset pointers, grab it again
and take a shot at replicating it.

MK> I've now booted it on a single VIA C3 and a dual p3 system. Works

Well I lack your proficientcy and for me that's really not the point or
 very important anymore.
This is all really therapy designed to stave off senility and keep me
 occupied.
In better circumstances my goals and motivations would be different but
this is the hand I was dealt.
