That isn't my ttylinux but the original upgraded Pascal Schmidt's ttylinux.  I
use that same one as the basis for two branches I am working on, x86_32 and
x86_64 versions aimed more towards 'beefier' ramdisks (8M) mainly for flashdisk
boots.

Check /etc/rc.d/init.d for all the scripts.  By default ppp is assumed in the
stock ttylinux bootup.  If you read them and then look to /etc/rc.d/rc.start
and rc.stop directories you'll get a better feel for how ttylinux works.

Right.  Those are shell scripts.

PPP isn't uniquely unix.  I am not sure where ppp originated and has little to
do with standard tcpip networking.  I am not really all that familiar with it
but did use it briefly when first starting with Linux.  It was more of a boar's
nest back then and I quickly abandoned it.

The basics are the same.  Only the init scripts are slightly different which
usually are in differing distributions.  Since Pascal decided to use busybox's
init then his init scripts are written to reflect that rather then the standard
sysvinit you find in every other 'standard' distribution whose init scripts and
deployment methods are also variable.  There is still the /etc/inittab but for
busybox is slightly different.  Same idea.
