Sounds good.  I found sox (record) good enough for wave format which makes it
easy to burn traditional music CD's and used to use gogo to directly convert to
mp3.  That worked great for all my sound needs.  Also tried ecasound which has
GUI frontends, or at least it used to, for all the fancy stuff that would
appeal to the people who appreciated shiney, flashy thingies.  Also it worked
great on the commandline which really appealed to me so it had the greatest
potential for pleasing the greatest audience.  I'll have to have another look
at all that stuff soon and see where the wind blows these days.  Also
cdparanoia was great at grabbing tracks from CD's which could be something of
interest.  I see that is still a 'must have' for all sorts of apps, GUI or
otherwise.

Heh, heh.  I doubt that works any better.  I here Intel has plans to release a
quad core cpu soon.  Myself I was thinking about 32-bit mpu's (micro processing
units) but was floored when I found out earlier today that a local supplier
(Vancouver) wants over a thousand dollars for one of them!!!  Whoa!!!  Mind you
lots of room on there for some very good basic functionality and apparently
they (mpu's) can go the distance.  Very interesting but out of my league at the
moment.  The 16-bit pic's are more in line with my budget but so far I haven't
done anything about those.

Yeah.  I just replaced the DVD-ROM on the 64-bit system with a hard drive.  I
wasn't doing anything about DVD's so I figured an extra drive was far more
useful.  As it turned out I was right as it has really been a factor in getting
Slackware up to speed 64-bit wise.  Now I just need a proper install routine
and I believe I've got something of real value to at least me.
