Just got back from there, very interesting.
I'm almost tempted to go it from scratch without the book selecting
their package recommendations and using the ldd command you brought to my
attention to find the required libraries.
Almost but not quite.

Rather a bit of a turnaround from  the guy that was so intimidated by this
stuff
so recently.

I've been a member of a first time PC builders group for quite some time
but never posted there until yesterday.

I recounted my experience with Linux on this old hardware and my costs :-)
A fellow member using BSD wrote in reply he was doing similar with that OS on
a Celeron 400.

Mind you this PC builders group generally covers inquiries by those
on the bleeding edge with all sorts of extreme hardware demands
and technical difficulties.
It is to laugh.

I'm getting more ideas by the day.
I'm feeling quite significantly better as well.
The improving mental outlook I attribute to undertaking the study of 
the Linux operating system.
Looks like at this point in time I elected the correct journey to
embark upon :-)

A very special thanks to yourself, Paul Rogers and Martin Atkins without
whose encouragement and assistance I either would never have
gotten to where I am now or would have at best taken a great deal longer
to arrive where I am today.
