==========================
On or about: 11-20-06 17:26, Maurice Kinal did engage James Bradley regarding,
but not limited to: init= was:ttylinux

 JB> ones. (With fortune.)

MK> Fortune is easy. Just call it up in /etc/profile so that

Ahead of you there. Well, maybe more in the shadow...

MK> when you login you'll automagically get one. Heck I even
MK> managed to redirect that on a daily basis to a BC sysop
MK> echo back when I was in that network as a pkt. Worked
 MK> great.

So, it's called at will, not *just* when a console is opened?

JB> I then went to jfs.s for the experiment, and that worked. I've
JB> recompiled since, with one success, and now another lockup. Things
JB> are as they should be.

 MK> Okay. I guess.

As long as the machine doesn't throw a critical spring, or that magic smoke
doesn't escape - it's all good. I'm now able to keep a few kernels on queue, to
feed my curiosity and speed my recovery from mistakes. This "make this" and
"make that" is still puzzling, but as long as the world turns.

JB> I later read, the bundled "huge26.?" and "test26.?" were dependant on
JB> other subdirectories (on the third CD?) for "proper operation." (Or

MK> I think you have to install packages from other CD's later. Beats me

I've burned d-one and d-two cleanly, but haven't bothered to return for a
d-three iso. I suspect that that third disk, may contain the two directories
for those two kernels. They must be 2.6.? versions, but I was a little baffled
why they would work for setup, but failed while booting from the hd. A trivial
issue now. The smoke is still encapsulated, *and* harnessed.

MK> drive for later mounting on a targetted machine. That
MK> works the best all around methinks and saves much hassel.

I understand the minimalist approach, but installing onto an odd HW
configuration, you *have* to limit your targets, no? I'm not concerning my
local situation by this question, but what if your target was a SATA RAID for
instance?

JB> missing. <L> I did find a Jointer for cheep last week, so I'm not
JB> about to play dead yet.

 MK> Sounds excellent.

Nice and compact too. Doesn't suffer from a truncated bed either. Now, to wax
that bed, as I think it'll have to winter outside... The old cloths washer is
disassembled, and I have one or two days of weather to get the new W.D.
inside... Ah, it *is* always somethin'.

MK>> Yeah. More on Sunday too. Batten down the hatches!!!

JB> Let me know if I need to load up the generator. <G>

MK> Yeah it went down again yesterday but not for long thank
MK> goodness. Expecting more of the same this week but we'll
MK> see. Not like I have a choice.

Any landing you can walk away from... I've decided, if my sister moves back
here, I'm leaving! She moved to Montreal, just in time for that ice storm, and
now, they have to boil their water?

I don't know if their luck is that bad, or if it just follows them around. <L>
