I wouln't know anything about any of that.  I had to work the trenches in
Solaris World and those type of people weren't to be found there.  The School
of Hard Knocks is where I learned Unix.  Mind you I could say the same for
VAX/VMS, DOS and later on BSD's and Linux distributions.  None of it was easy.

Right.  I faced the same problem.  My first Linux machine was a 486-33 with 32M
of ram and a 250M (or was 240? ... something like that) hard drive.  It was
painful but well worth it now that I can look back on it.

Yep.  I remember them being more expensive then 100's of G drives of today.  A
heck of a lot slower too.

I never talked to any of those people so it was never an issue for me.  Most of
the Unix people, if not all the Unix people, I knew were mathematicians and not
computer geeks.  I think that might have been an advantage.

Slackware 3.something earlier then 3.4 as I have the full set for 3.4 which is
the first one I bought.  I have a few early Debians as well but I am not sure
where I stashed those.  Somewhere in this mess.  Also have an early RedHat but
it had too many problems installing.  Also, also an early SuSE (German days)
but didn't care for their advertised 'support' which was esentially nonexistant
(go figure).  Slackware was and still is best overall.
