Eleven years on my Canon bubble jet and still no rebate.
Yeah I take it as being bait and switch.
Lure you in with the promise than change the deal.
On principle I refuse to participate in this.

In fact the Radio Shack emplyee tried to interest me in a 2 Gig flash drive
discounted to $25 dollars without the rebate.
I would have gone for it *if* the 1 Gig flash drive advertised
in the flyer had not deceptively neglected the reduced cost didn't take
into account the rebate.
I know lots of people get sucked in this way but I am not one of them.
Salesmen have lost quite a few sales to me over past years due t these
practices.

On average I suppose they do come out ahead on those determined to spend out of

compulsion.

They get a good price on this boxes as there's so little to them.
Interface circuit amounts to a parallel - serial shift register I gather,
nothing much more.

 WC> Ya got me.
WC> Lots more stuff there for sure however it lacked iptables as it was

MK> I am pretty sure 10.2 came with iptables.

The firewall script Martin Atkins provided that works so well in Debian
fails on an error for every instance iptables is invoked from that script.
I tried altering the path.
iptables -L -n returnes no command.

 WC> Older Kernel as well.
WC> Perhaps Debian has advanced since last you looked at it?
WC> Really wasn't all that different.

Well essentially and in principle I agree with you on all these points however
in my current circumstances I must make allowences for those circumstances.
IOWs the need to get something accomplished supercedes sometimes the desire
to do it in the cleanest possible manner.

MK> This way anything I create is compatible with

 I like standards myself.
What is it, the posix standard to which Linux rigidly adheres?

WC> Oh, well, once more by the manual method.

MK> Right. It can be done on others too but I forget offhand how. I

You may recall my not employing modprobe for just such a concern on my sound
card.
Linux is just too powerful to try stuff willy nilly.
Ask me about the time when I did this: cp -a dosfile.txt /dev/hda
instead of cp -a dosfile.txt /mnt after first mounting hda1

Attempting to copy the file to a DOS windows first partition Linux obediently
copied the file right over the boot sector and FAT.

WC> Well my goal was a test of both the CPU load and monitor resolution
WC> as I didn't know for certain it would support 1280x1024

MK> They usually do. I was running at that resolution even on the console
MK> but prefer 1024x768 anyhow. Also I can change on the fly with a
 MK> Matrox. ;-)

MK> I hear ya! My nearest neighbour is far enough away that it isn't any

All I want now the dog is gone is to be left alone, seems that's too much to
ask.
People upstairs are real section 8 housing types.
That's U.S. speak for government subsidized housing.
Not sure you know what I mean.
Landlady seems superficially very likable however has this serious passive
aggressive thing going on where she attacks people then complains she's the
injured party
and "why do people use me?"

On that point I owe James Bradley an apology as well as in an email I kinda
lumped him in along with my christain landlady who jacked the rent 235.
With the insane increase, my cognitive decline and attending mental decline
and attendent loss of temper control I unititentionally lashed out.
IOW's I lost it yestersday.

Anyway to James Bradley, sorry for the rant I inadvertantly directed at you.
I kinda see in black and white sometimes these days with no shades of grey.
Email apology on the way as well later as able.

Well, six AM, just woke up and can';t decide on whether to make coffee
or take a nap.
Oh my, that bodes ill for this day<g>

WC> My experiment was more aimed at testing hardware limits and checking
 WC> out HD
 WC> firsthand.

 MK> Good idea.

 Random stuff does occur.

 WC> Snow?
WC> ISTR that stuff from many moons ago.

MK> Same here. It seems to have stopped but it is supposed to get colder.
 MK> Can't win for trying.

Hey, that's my line.
