Why do you continue to dispute simple facts?
The facts are I purchased that Western Digital 2.5 Gig hard drive at 
the Office Depot Crossroads shopping Plaza across from Tyrone Blvd. in Saint
Petersburg Fl.

 I read the warranttee requirements which most certainly *did* stipulate the 
 manufacturers requirement that I send in the original sales receipt.

 Perhaps you would care to speculate as to what other reason I may have had
 to not send in for the 20 dollar rebate?

Has it ever occurred to you as an expert in retail sales practices that 
different corporations might possibly have different warrantee rebate policies?

Mind you now here we're not talking about Office Depot but of Western Digital
Corporation.

Speaking of holding onto receipts and such rather than willy nilly rushing home
and being in such a hurry to use the thing tossing receipts and documentation
away.
Ross, you just ain't going to believe this.

Right to my left on the bottom shelf of the stainless steel cart upon which my 
computer sits is the *orignal* hardm drive installation manual!
Now ain't that a hoot.

Warrantee information inside of back cover

Obtaining Service
Western Digital Corporation ("WDC") offers services under the terms of its
limited warranttee for 
products that are withing the warranttee period as well as those that are
outside of the period.
If this product ever requires maintanance either contact the dealer from who
you originally
product or telephone WDC's technical support department.

No product may be returned directly to WDC without first contacting our
technical support department at
(714) 932-4900 or at (800) 275-4932.
If it is determined that the product may be defective you will be given a
retturn material authorization 
("RMA") number and instructions for product return.
An authorization return, i.e. one for which an RMA number has not been issued
will be returned
at your expense. Authorized returns are to be shipped prepaid and insured to
the address on the RMA and 
are to be packaged securely to prevent damages.
In order to conclusively establish the period of warranttee an original
purchase receipt must

Oops, taint this really weird!
I've got the actual dective and damaged hard drive still and the numbers match
those I wrote into the manual so very long ago.

I actually had to move to get the dead drive from the closet however but it was
worth the effort.

Know anyone in Saint Petersburg Florida who can drop by to look at the
documentation and drive itself?

their records this long.

BTW the serial number located on the drive below the UPC code is WT334 003 3733
Nope,  checked variations altering by inserting spaces, commas and semicolons
per page directions but it appears that database doesn't retain records over a
decade old

Hey here's an idea, the drive is for sale for a mere 20 dollars.
Wait, heck no it ain't.
Now that I think about it a microsecond it's only the boot sector
that's trashed and I was still able to boot to the two Linux partitions
on that drive!!!
/dev/hda1 where FAT 16 DOS Windows resided is gone praise the lord but 
the two other partition should still be there if I haven't trashed
it due to lax antistatic handling as I'd considered it dead.

A time capsule!

Ross I am so very sorry to have to be the one to break te news to  you this but

there comes a time in all of our lives when we all must face the ultimate

 It's a chance to peer into my private life though back at that time
 I would have had most personal information on the C drive which may or may not

 subject to data recovery.
