Hey WAYNE!

That would have been true years and years ago but these daze all it takes is
survival to become one of the sharpest. I'd put you within the top five in
this echo. which isn't really saying much but we won't mention why. Shhhhhh.

WC> I looked at lynx once and recoiled in horror.

How long ago was that?

WC> Though perhaps I should take another look as lots of stuff

The arrow keys are the main navigational tools. 'd' for downloading a
hoghlighted file, 'q' for quit, etc. What else is there to know?

The main thing about it is that 'p' will allow you to save a html page as a
local text file which can be extremely handy.

That isn't saying much. ;-)

What formats? The only one I am aware of is the word format and you can pipe
those to strings and then redirect that to get rid of the control codes. I
doubt that works with rft (<- I think that is what it is called) but their
older word format it worked like a charm. I've also used that strategy with
other word processor formats with success.

    eg. 'strings somedoc.doc > somedoc.text'

Piece of cake!!!

WC> Save to text, import and format is doable but time consuming and

See above. After all you're a Linux guru now. Use the Linux Luke!

WC> For now for the wetware I use kwrite in KDE as a scatchpad memory
 WC> device

I am not a big fan of kde. I am obviously tainted by the stuff I used to have
to do way back when. There were no such tools in ye ol' VAX/VMS world I
originally had to use. Thank goodness those daze are long gone but I think I
am still dealing with the hangover. The biggest reason I like Linux is that it
has the best console ever, bar none.

WC> I don't like Open Office as far too much for what I want to do though
 WC> I'll use
WC> it on a needed basis.

Yeah. I used to have to do that except with it's predecessor Star Office.
:::shudder:::

Before that it was Word Perfect (DOS version) and before that it was groff (or
was it troff???) way back in my Solaris daze. In VAX/VMS I never had to worry
about any of it. I forget now what the editor in that world was but offhand I
think it was 'edit'. Don't quote me on that though as it was a long, long time
ago.

WC> Hope to hear from you soon regarding my customer purchase coupon
 WC> redeemable
WC> for cash by manufacturer idea.

I'd have to see it first. What coupons do you have?

BTW this is the first message I am writing from the new Linux build. Seems to
work. What do you think? Is it a keeper?

Life is good,
Maurice
