Could be a module ... just a sec ... I've got four possiblities here that are
used to enhance email capabilities and aren't part of the normal perl
compilation - actually one isn't an email thingy but is needed by one of these
modules;

IO-stringy, <- MailTools needs this if I am not mistaken, <- MIME-tools needs
this, and Mail-Sender which needs none of the former but does require an MTA
such as sendmail or procmail.  Of these I think Mail-Sender sounds like what
you might require for the above scheme.  If you can post some of the script
that you think is native to perl I could probably confirm it.

Maybe.  I've been playing with a nbsmtp/procmail combination that seems to be a
very good replacement since it doesn't require perl or any additional modules.

As you can see the total is under 200k (64-bit too) which is a heck of alot
less then perl.  Would require a smtp server though but I am sure a suitable
one could be found to work with the above scheme.  I am using the above for
regular email services to the cold, cruel world without any hassels.  Works
great but had a heck of a time finding the nbsmtp source.  Let me know if you
have simular hassels and I am sure I could get it to you.  If I am not mistaken
exim can be set up as an smtp server so the above should work out great with
that.
