No doubt about that here.  I got a real charge when I saw the first CD shredder
being advertized for sale at local business type retail operations.  I like
your idea better and already have the torch as I use and need it for other
things.  Still the shredder amused me but not enough to actually buy one.

Right.  RW's are a tad flakier and fussier then R's.  Older CD-ROMs can't
usually read them at all, nevermind boot them.

That varies.  Offhand I'd think something like Ubuntu would be what you'd be
after.  Also seeing it is Debian based it opens the door to using Debian
packages if you find yourself lacking whatever.  The Debian people have tons of
stuff.  As far as I know Ubuntu can handle your posted usb needs (drives) but
seemed to be lacking in the usb networking stuff.  My best guess is you'll have
the quickest and greatest success with that and there seems to be quite a bit
of activity going on with them.

As far as what is best that is a matter of what you do with computers.  My
money goes with Slackware as being the best but that is only because I never
bought into others doing things for me.  I know what I want and am prepared to
do the required hoop jumping to get there, wherever 'there' is.  Linux is good.
