It was like no other editor I'd used before or since. It was even pretty, but
you had to watch your step using it. It had comamnds not unlike WordStar.

Oh, if you didn't have the manual, there was still the help key, but that often
wasn't enough. This EDIT.EXE was anything but straight forward.

 MK> :::shudder:::

I began with PC-DOS and then went to MS-DOS. I had a brand new box of DR-DOS
that remained unopened. I had no experience with it at all. The free-to-all
release of IBM's OS/2 2.1 December '92 beta became available and I was hooked.
A shame they discontinued support for it after the release of Warp 4 and its
fixpaks.

You still have to compile new programs that you get for it? I believe I have
the Linux 10.? release here somewhere, but never could get it to see my ZIP
drive.

 RN> Only thing that will hold me up then is a decent DOS emulator and

Impressive.

 MK> DOS emulation?!?!?!?!?! What for? DOS never could compete with
 MK> any Unix EVER, nevermind Linux. I say, let it go, set it free.

Because there is a DOS-based mailer I'm beta testing. Eventually we hope the
author will get around to writing versions for other OS, but that will, in this
case, require a rewrite of the entire code.
