Ärende: Wireless in Linux

In my own opinion, for excellent reasons. They took an excellent base product,
Debian, and added what the world has been demanding, better integration and
more non-free devices and support.

Never even heard of that card. Google linux laptop and you should find a very
well defined set of pages for how to make any laptop work with linux. Related
info is talking about sound and wireless drivers. If your laptop has USB2.0,
you can consider some of the USB dongle devices, but I've had decent luck with
most older mainstream pcmcia cards.

Are you trying to run a static IP address manually encoded? Chances are you
still have the dhclient running and it and your static assignments are fighting
over the network hardware. I would also look at your power settings as there
has been nothing, other than a fight over network configs between dhclient and
a static assignment that I have ever experienced that would do what you
describe.

What happens if you become root and run `ifconfig -a`? Do that while everything
is working properly. Also do it again when you have lost network. Also cat
/etc/resolv.conf in both states. When you have lost network, if your ifconfig
shows nothing there, try running `/etc/init.d/networking restart` and see if
that brings the network back.

You might also have a bad pcmcia setup for some reason. There should be nothing
in a restart of X that should resolve that type of network issue except
possibly that the X run level forces networking to start/stop when you exit and
come back in.
