Ah yes. I recall that episode now that you mention it. I also recall backing
you up that there is absolutely nothing wrong with kermit and, if there is,
then it *must* be their implementation of it. Both the server and client of
ckermit worked flawlessly here over the ethernet. Never tried connecting to
any BBS though.

Right. No surprises there.

He should explain that to NASA and other scientific/engineering types. Perhaps
he could sell them on zmodem. :::snicker:::

MS> Yes, that's another frustration the LEGACY BBS users are facing.

Right. It is flakey for sure.

MS> I refuse to install proprietary clients (i simply give up) when

Same here. What for? It isn't like they'll have any real world application.
These guys are off in LaLaLand in my humble opinion. Usually the biggest
whiners about the lack of users too. Go figure eh?

MS> BBS's files are innaccessible for a failure to stick to some

Right. I usually gets worst when you venture beyond just those basics too. If
plain-jane terminal/serial protocols are flakey then one can safely assume that
everything that follows isn't worth the bytes it takes up on whatever media.

MS> My impression is that it worked because you went to the source
 MS> then
MS> installed one of Columbia's OFFICIAL `Kermit' packages on BOTH ends.

Exactly. Compiled it from the source I downloaded from them. Worked
excellent. I was impressed.

 MS> In
MS> reality, it's unpopular because they got it crippled in the 1st

It isn't unpopular though. It is in wide use. If anything the people who
claim it's unpopular are clueless to what really goes on. No matter though.

MS> Finally, `C-Kermit' is available at no

Right. No problem.

Life is good,
Maurice
