Ärende: installing Linux with eCS

Do you have Ubuntu live CD or Ubuntu Install CD or both?

If you have the live CD, boot from it and see what it looks and feels like
before investing any time. Personally I love it and am using it as my
workstation linux distribution of choice on several systems.

As for the install, you will need a partition to install the Ubuntu into. An
extended partition should be just fine. The most important thing is to leave
your boot manager alone and ensure that it installs the Linux boot loader, Grub
for ubuntu, into the same partition as you installed the system. Note that the
partition needs to be flagged as an Ext3 file system and you should probably
create a second partition sized at 1-2 times your RAM and flag it for use as
linux swap space. Just be sure you don't install the boot loader for Linux into
the MBR or you will lose your existing loader.

It should be possible to have your current boot manager trigger a boot by
running the pseudo mbr loader that you install into your extended partition. If
that fails, there is a boot strap system which I am afraid I've never used and
can't advise you on specifics.

Have fun,
Dave
