That's from Crucial? It's a little less expensive than Apple, but Apple's price
includes installation. So the $300 isn't unreasonable. I have no idea what RAM
they're using though. I'll have to check Kingston's prices as well.

I think you have to buy these SODIMMs in matched pairs for the Apple machines.
They're pretty sensitive to RAM anomalies apparently.
