What you describe applies just as much to Passport as it does to any =
other site, either the NYT or sites where you buy stuff. There is no =
difference. I and millions of others use Passport in just this way. = Just
look at all the people that check their Hotmail accounts from = hotels,
internet cafes, and anywhere else away from home.

Single signin is not tracking. You have tried to make this bogus =
claim before. It's still not true.

Rich

"Geo" <georger@nls.net> wrote in message news:41d6e54e@w3.nls.net...
Well I'm one of the ones who refused to use passport, in fact it's one =
of the reasons I dropped out of all windows beta testing (because they =
required passport). My reasoning was two fold. First, if I wanted the =
computer to remember my login information for a site, as you mentioned, = I had
the IE password manager which I would use for unimportant sites = like the NYT
and such but any site where I buy stuff I would always tell = it to NOT
remember me.

Second, a single multiple site signin/tracking service I personally =
view as too invasive.

So, what was it, the users not using passport or sites not using =
passport that has reduced Microsoft's interest in persuing passport with = the
vigor they once had for it?

  Geo.
"Rich" <@> wrote in message news:41d6dacc@w3.nls.net...
I disagree. First, Passport is not that. The person at the =
keyboard must still confirm who he is.

Second, if you look at some of the folks, who likely don't use =
Passport, posting to the recent slashdot item on Passport, say that they =
perceived it as similar to their running a password manager app on the =
client. This folks obviously do want to automate the process. Third, = IE and
other browsers contain password managers and people use them. = Lastly, you
have people that use the same user name and password = wherever they can and
keep it all written on post-its by the computer. = They are just trying to
make it easier.

In other words, one, people clearly do want to automate this. =
Two, Passport is not the same. It provides single sign-in where you = have one
identity (per passport) at multiple sites not multiple = identities, one per
site.

    Rich

Glad to see you are still around Rich, I was beginning to miss =
your comments. My point was that the people who use the internet the = most
aren't so stupid that they want a service to replace or automate = the process
of confirming the person at the keyboard is the account = holder.

      Geo.
"Rich" <@> wrote in message news:41d5f1fb@w3.nls.net...
Neither of these applies to Passport so if you are going to =
make junk up you could make up worse.

It boiled down to too few people trusting their computer with =
their credit
card number. Sort of like what's the point of a password if =
the computer is
going to enter it for you..
