Glenn,

All it means is that it is a DHCP server and can do NAT.

  Business or consumer? (FTTP).

  I find I don't even have to deal with them at all, once I got the =
hookup=20
  going. Shelley only had the basic basic cable (12.00/month), so the =
cable=20
  modem was a purchase for me from CompUSA, and a phone call to them to=20
  activate the modem. From that point on, it's been rock solid here. =
Got a=20
  D-Link G+ Wireless Router behind the cable modem. Been running solid =
for=20
  over a year now.

  I've just rebuilt a computer for someone at work, who is on Bell South =
DSL,=20
  and the service, quite frankly, is slow. Haven't run any speed tests =
to see=20
  what he's getting, but it's better than the dialup/AOL they used =
before.=20
  He's got one of those Gateway machines that looks like an eMac (the =
one=20
  where the computer is on the back side of the LCD). Re-worked it a =
month=20
  ago, but the machine just seemed "sluggish". Turns out, the HD was =
dying (a=20
  Maxtor). It died on Thursday, BSOD Registry corrupt. Bought a new HD =
for=20
  them, replaced the old one, used the Gateway install disk to reinstall =

  XPPro. Then added the old drive as a slave, and was able to access =
and get=20
  all their photos and files off, and a bunch of the downloaded =
installers=20
  they had, so they can put most of their downloaded and bought software =
back=20
  on. The machine is now SO much snappier.

  I noticed that their DHCP assigned IP address from their DSL Modem, is =
a=20
  192.168 block number. Does that mean that this DSL Modem also has a=20
  ROUTER/Firewall type device in it? It's a Broadxent brand.
