Me too, that's why I keep it as big as I can, yet not compromise my quicklaunch
bar.

Amen to that and at least we can configure things to our taste.  You might want
to take a look at object desktop, it's got some similar, though more
configurable launchpad type stuff.  I use it occasionally, but I reinstall my
OS to get really comfortable with it.
