Ah ok...not much need for branching etc more document revision tracking across
a range of formats. I take it given it's a sort of smb/filesharing thingy that
it handles both binary & text with equal aplomb.

Is it secure? i.e. assuming the machine is somewhere solid & the only link is
ethernet...tcp/ip (not inet)...

I have to admit to still prefering to merge by eye (i.e. "show me the
changes/differences but I'll do the copy & paste till my local copy & the
remote fit")

Kewl I'll see what the support techies think.

maybe that should have been if rather than what...<GD&R>

Subversion is the front runner but it's a setup & admin thing more than a
capability thing. Personally I have 0 trouble with setting up & admin'ing cvs
but given there is no public net way into the net in question I'm making sure
that I'm not the "goto guy" for admin'ing this so I don't have to appear in
person just coz some git's done summat stupid.

Which is why my preference is for VSS...(sly as a fox & twice as cunning).

I know what you're thinking....what a cunning stunt....<GD&R>

i.e. something which does what we want & I know nothing about...<G>

Yup but we're not doing major coding. Mostly design & similar docs, some tools
for developers (e.g. valid message checkers (onion skinners)) etc.

Cheers for the reply.
