Shelley's van has a similar problem (check engine light on), but nobody can
find the reason.  They can get it off for a day or two, but it comes back on. 
Diagnostics say "Oxygen Sensors".  After spending a ton with the dealer, and an
independent garage (who said the dealer charged her for some useless stuff), we
solve the problem by pulling the battery cable for about an hour.  When we put
it back on, the computer has lost enough of it's "brain", that the light will
stay off for a day or two, long enough to pass the emissions test.  Here in TN,
they no longer stick a "sniffer" up the tail pipe, they plug in to the computer
connector and read the info that way.  Passed twice that way. I'll bet that's
all the guy who charged $60.00 did, especially if the light came back on later.
