No it can't cut in for the web stuff. For the near term these people are going
to end up moving away from their computer and use the TV or DVD player to
browse and do webmail. My TV already has this capability and it's running
WinCE, my DVD player has it too and it's running a CE type version of Linux.
Dedicated email/browser devices are coming for this crowd but they still
require an OS and it's really the device manufacturers not google who are going
to decide what OS.

RCA is more important than Google to MS.

I think there is a more significant change happening. Word being replace by
Outlook is but one example. I still see the need for an industrial strength
spreadsheet but the whole paper communications model has been forever changed
by email. As such, the traditional capabilities to read specific file formats
is changing to a web standard and this is going to allow more competition in
the "Office" market.

Microsoft's Office group seems to have a good handle on this and are working to
insure that they have the best product instead of a lockin file format. I think
because MS lives by email that they are probably in a good position to hold
onto their lead here. It's the OS group that has lost focus of what's important
to their customers.
